Those were the days

Those were the days

Those were the days
when the sun was at its beauteous peak
the shines poured gold
and we loved to play in the sun
as it showered
traces of vital minerals
free
There never occurred the thought of
sun tan and we had heard of no screening from sun
Those were the days
when the rain was good
as it always poured and poured
fortuitous treasures in the heart of rich crops
the hunger and thirst both felt appeased
and I enjoyed the very first droplets of rain
when water was good
in the river, in the well
in the canal
and it held its uncorrupted purity
we loved to drink
handful and mouth full.
Those were the days
when the men and women
were always good
as they held their head high
and extended their hand to hold forth
the goodness of the world.
when the money did not count much
nor it carried any value
the love never equaled any price
we always felt secure
sitting by the fire
partaking food
served by hands made of silver
and heart made of pure gold.
Those were the days
and they remained as part of the rich past
the memories of lands and villages
crowds and caravans
they carried around
the milk of human kindness.
